During training days with smoke diving in a realistic environment (fire training house), we burned with a lot of heat (around 300°) and dense black smoke. Under these conditions, we tested the light rope in different ways. One method was to attach the rope to one of the smoke divers in order to follow where he went. Another method was for a support team for the smoke divers to take the rope inside and attach it at their base point to ensure an easy retreat path out. What we could observe was that the light rope was clearly visible from 4-5 meters away in this challenging environment. What needs to be developed is an easier way to attach the rope to the smoke divers (like a vest or similar) if it is to be permanent equipment for the smoke divers. We hope for continued collaboration in the development of this idea with the light rope.
